I designed an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) above a single-car garage located in the alley. The ADU layout maximizes the small space by having the living room face an interior yard and the master bedroom overlook the alley. To create more room, I added a mezzanine that opens to the living room and provides an extra area facing the interior courtyard. This design not only meets zoning requirements but also utilizes the narrow strip effectively. The living room and kitchen are connected to the mezzanine, while the master bedroom is positioned at the back of the ADU. By designing the garage with a 7-foot clearance, I achieved a vaulted ceiling that complies with the height limitation. This design also allows for a high ceiling in the master bedroom.
